About Eco-Power
Environmental
Eco-Power Environmental was founded in 2012 and has grown to become one of the UK’s most innovative waste, recycling and resource management businesses.
Our flagship facilities in Yorkshire and Humberside provide recycling and fuel production services for commercial and municipal waste from across the UK. Both facilities also benefit from on-site rail links providing a highly cost-effective transport option for large volumes of waste, recovered materials and our alternative fuel products.
Through its sustainable fuels subsidiary, Eco-Power Fuels, Eco-Power Environmental provides a range of waste derived fuels to energy intensive industries including cement kilns and power stations.
Our market-leading Eco- Power Pellets are produced at our UK facilities and are supplied to customers in the UK and international markets.
We pride ourselves on operating sustainably and responsibly and continue to invest in both our people and facilities in order to provide the highest levels of service to all of our customers, irrespective of their size, location or requirements.
Our Ambition
We don’t believe that waste is a problem that needs to be managed but see it as a valuable resource which has both an environmental and commercial value. Everything we do is designed to maximise this value for the benefit of our customers and the environment.
Wherever possible we adhere to the principles of the ‘Waste Hierarchy’ and ultimately the best way to manage waste is to prevent it from being produced in the first place.
Our team work closely with customers to identify how they can improve their business processes to achieve this.
We are also realistic and understand that for the foreseeable future we will continue to create waste. It is down to us to process this waste as effectively as possible. Where possible this will involve recovering materials for recycling, so they can be used in the manufacture of new products. Where this is not practical, we work to use this material in the production of sustainable energy either in our Eco-Power Pellets or other waste derived fuels.
Our Facilities
Eco-Power Environmental operates two recycling and sustainable fuel production facilities in South Yorkshire and Humberside, which divert 95% of the material we process from landfill.
Both sites have excellent transport links, providing a quick and efficient service for third party waste inputs. These include on-site rail links which provide highly cost-effective transport option for large volumes of waste and our alternative fuel products.
Both facilities include an impressive range of technologies capable of processing both commercial and municipal waste. These include:
Bio-Drying
The vast majority of waste that we process passes through our bio drying facility to drive off excess moisture. In addition to reducing the volume of the material, this makes it easier to process and to recover additional recyclable material. It also minimises the moisture content of our alternative fuel products making them highly energy efficient.
Automated recycling lines
These incorporate a range of technologies such as:
• Trommels & Screens – fines, glass, stone
• Magnets & eddy current separators – ferrous & non-ferrous metals
• Ballistic separators – 2D from 3D fractions
• NIR (Near Infrared Technology) – plastic polymers inc. PVC
As a result, we divert over 95% of the material we process through our facilities from landfill.
Manual picking lines
There is still no better technology than the human eye. Our manual picking lines, which confirm to the highest health and safety standards, are used to either remove unwanted materials that contaminate recycling streams or to pick additional recyclates. This enables us to optimise the commercial and environmental value of the material we process.
Fuel Production
Our subsidiary, Eco-Power Fuels, utilises the material that cannot be recycled in the production of its sustainable fuel products. This ensures the energy value of this material is captured and that virtually none of the material we manage needs to be landfilled. Our alternative fuel products include Eco-Power Pellets, SRF, RDF and biomass products. For more information click visit eco-powerfuels.com.
Materials
We work closely with our customers to minimise the amount of general waste produced. This can be achieved through improvement of onsite processes or the installation of recycling services for mixed or segregated materials.
General Waste
All the general waste we receive is processed through our recycling facilities in Yorkshire and Humberside where we recover recyclable materials including paper plastics, metals, aggregates and fines.
Material that cannot be recycled in then used by our alternative fuels business, Eco Power Fuels, in the production of sustainable fuels including our market leading Eco-Power Pellets, Solid Recovered Fuel (SRF) and Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF).
Dry Mixed Recycling
Mixed recycling services are easy to use and require minimal space and as a result are offered by many waste managers for both commercial and municipal waste. Our recycling facilities are capable of sorting over 95% of this material into high quality single streams whilst removing any contaminants. These materials are then used by reprocessors in the production of new raw materials and the subsequent manufacturing of new products.
Single Stream Recyclates
We also process a number of high-volume single stream materials in order to grade them and remove contaminants. These are then transported to reprocessors to be recycled back into new products or used in the production of sustainable fuels. These materials include:
• Paper and cardboard
• Metals
• Plastics
• Wood
Hazardous Waste
Eco-Power Environmental works with a network of fully licensed UK processors to provide collection, recycling and recovery services to a wide range of hazardous waste producers. This includes laboratory chemicals and the waste produced by the manufacturing, automotive, chemical, pharmaceutical and petrochemical sectors.
Sustainability
Prevention is better than cure. As a result, we adhere to the principles of the waste hierarchy across the Eco-Power Environmental Group and are committed to working with our customers to develop process which prevent waste being produced.
We are also realistic and recognise that for the foreseeable future we will continue to generate significant volumes of commercial and municipal waste. Given this is the case we believe in optimising the environmental and commercial value of all the waste that we produce. An important step in doing this is to adopt the mindset that this material isn’t waste at all and to view it as a valuable secondary resource. These resources can be used in the development of sustainable supply chains or the production of sustainable energy.
Minimising our impact on the planet and the development of a more circular economy is not something that can be achieved in isolation. If we are to be successful it will require a far higher degree of cross-sector working and political buy-in. As a business however, there are areas where we can make a positive contribution to preserving the planet for future generations. Check out our Sustainability Targets.
